March 2018 Annual Legislative Breakfast
Researchers identified nearly $600 million dollars in wasteful healthcare spending or "low-value care" within the state of Virginia in 2014 alone. The overuse of low-value services and treatments is endemic in our health care system. Waste negatively impacts patient health and healthcare affordability. What can we do about this crisis and how do we start here in Rhode Island? Keynote speaker Mark Fendrick, MD, Professor of Internal Medicine in the School of Medicine and a Professor of Health Management and Policy in the School of Public Health at the University of Michigan, will present valuable information on Value-Based Insurance Design (V-BID), findings from other states such as Virginia, as well as possible pathways towards the elimination of low-value care.
