National Diabetes Alert Day
Diabetes Alert Day is a national annual event, held every fourth Tuesday in March. It is a one-day “wake-up call” asking the American public to take the Diabetes Risk Test to find out if they are at risk for developing type 2 diabetes.
This year, Diabetes Alert Day is on March 25, 2026.
Did you know that 1 in 3 Rhode Island adults are living with prediabetes and 8 out of 10 don’t know they have it?
Our diabetes prevention program, Ready for Health, is a CDC evidence-based lifestyle change program for prediabetic adults, available at no cost to them. Ready for Health is run by trained Lifestyle Coaches who help participants learn how to make small dietary, physical activity, and other lifestyle changes, which lead to big result.
Join the Rhode Island Department of Health in raising awareness about diabetes and diabetes prevention by encouraging employees to take the brief Diabetes Risk Test at Take the Test - Prediabetes or Take the Test - Prediabetes (Spanish). High-risk scorers may consider registering for Ready for Health and call the Community Health Network at 401-432-7217 for more information class availability!
Chronic Disease Prevention and Management
The Rhode Island Department of Health (RIDOH)’s Diabetes and Cardiovascular Health (DCH) Program provides information and resources to enable people to better prevent and manage chronic diseases, including type 2 diabetes and more.
Reducing diabetes and chronic disease risk can help strengthen your workforce. More than 1 in 3 Rhode Island adults have prediabetes and don't know it. Complications of diabetes and prediabetes (having higher blood glucose, or sugar, than is normal, but not yet as high as with diabetes) can affect the health and quality of life of your employees.
